The only Generation mod thats even viable is Classic Sonic Adventures, and even that has DUBIOUS things

ie

 - you are basically shit out of luck without classic sonics homing attack, though the levels CAN be beaten without them
 - a bunch of the classic levels with modern sonic in them crash if you do certain things, also planet wisp is incompletable

Possible with short goals/hacks!

Certain hacks/fangames are pretty meaty though (like megamix) and probably wouldnt be ideal

Id totes race in hack/fangame night though

If you got it, flaunt it. There is no reason that "oh guys please dont use this glitch that I cant do" is a valid argument to ban a strategy.

I may actually race in this one, because I haven't played Generations in a while and it's hella fun. I can't do the speed glitch either, I tried for a solid half an hour and didn't even get anything close to it once, but I'm not going to whine that it exists; there's no way I will win so it doesn't matter to me in the slightest.

Also as mentioned on most levels it doesn't even really save all that much time, if you try to do it and fuck it up, what now?

tl;dr d-d-d-d-deal with it

also my vote is for 4/5 as I dont mind whether skills are allowed or not and it doesnt really take that much longer than option 1. option 1 because I'm a numpty and failed at reading.

I had a pretty decent first run of Normal-Ironman Mode, got myself a Colonel, a Major, a Captain, couple of Lieutenants. Decent headway into the tech, solid battle tactics, AND THEN I GOT A TERROR SITE WITH TWO CYBERDISCS AND EIGHT CHRYSALLIDS. ENTIRE SQUAD DEAD. TOO SAD TO CONTINUE WITH THAT SAVEFILE. #X-COM

So basically what you're saying is, you'd like the ability for people to be able to go "no lol I don't want to be tracked on 24/7 for this race".

Which will realistically be every race where a person might lose points. The entire concept of being able to do that that makes this already redundant system even more redundant. Additionally it also adds additional work for SDM (not that he's here to do any anyway!) in that he'd have to manually check who opted out of being ranked because they might lose.

Bad idea/10

I was under the impression that the whole point of the ranking card that it was to be used universally for all games?

If it's supposed to be a separate card for every single game then what is even the point.

Mind you it's not like SDM is here to read my horrible/contentless/snickering posts as he went AWOL after designing this frankly unnecessary and complicated system to be tacked onto something that was supposed to be a "turn up and have fun" style event.

Not to pick fault with the idea (because it's a good one and I enjoyed running it myself), but requiring a youtube video may exclude a fair few people who would otherwise enter. Recording, editing and uploading can be a big hassle to have to do for something "fun"!

The site rules on whether or not it can be played on an emulator are a little flexible, maybe? Probably not the right word, but here's what I mean:

If there is an emulator for it and you have an iso (ie i dunno, a GC emulator and an iso of Shadow or something), that isn't good enough to automatically qualify it to be valid for competition use.

tl;dr if your pc cannot emulate it at the same speed as it runs on console, you're out of luck.

I know this mostly applies to more intensive games, ie not mega drive games or GBA games, but I feel it worth pointing out as my ancient laptop can only just emulate GBA games at 100% speed, and DS games are out of the question, so anyone sitting on top of some old and/or underpowered tech is shit out of luck on that front.

If you are an admin and you don't show up because you don't want to, why should you be an admin if you don't contribute to the community?

i no rite, I mean the Olympics Comittee organise a world wide event and then take part in every single event, oh wait

News and Updates / Re: The Return of TSC Race Night!

Racing individual levels or playing over Kaillera will be worth half the normal point value. Low risk, low reward, but you can do a lot of these and very often.

Does that mean the system can be gamed and you can (albeit slowly) advance to the #1 rank purely by playing a piss easy level like EH1 over and over?

80
As said above, I was going to point out that you can probably complete the level via regular means or via herpin and derpin your way to the end faster than you can collect 50 rings, turn super, and then go about doing either of the two methods I mentioned, so is it really worth charting?

Then again we track super sonic for S4E2 and his usefulness is mostly obsoleted by tagroll2win so!?

81
Genuinely did not know that gen1 displayed effectiveness messages weird. Guess it's been so long since I last played!

I got to Mount Moon and then I started again with arbitrary rules, because my Moltres, Fearow and something else evolved were flattening everything.

This time around I am not allowing myself to catch evolved Pokemon below the level they evolve (or at all if they are stone evos), and also not allowing myself to capture basic Pokemon with no evolutions until after Celadon!

82
On paper it's delicious but I'm noticing some problems.

Best example I can give, I encountered a Seadra on route 1, and my only move was Earthquake. It didn't affect it so I knew it was at least part Flying. I came back and encountered another much later, after I'd caught 5-6 new Pogeys, and I hit it with Thundershock. Not very effective. I was like, what? There's no way that's even possible. It turned out it was Dragon/Flying, and for some reason wasn't using the secondary type to modify it's weakness/resistances outside of its Ground immunity. Not the only thing I've seen it happen on (I've caused super effective damage to a Ground/Grass type with Mega Drain), but I've also seen secondary types working completely as intended.

It's not really gamebreaking, but it's pretty annoying when you're trying to work out types.

83
Well something broke because now the ROM runs at 4000% speed, and nothing can be done to make it slow down and remain playable, even in a fresh unzip of VBA. SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG HAS HAPPENED HERE.

Edit: Fixed it, then done goofed by accidentally saving over my save file with the title screen. TIME TO RERANDOMISE AND START OVER, THIS TIME IN COLOUR.

Edit2: AND SO WE BEGIN AGAIN, NOW WITH PERHAPS THE GREATEST STARTER OF ALL TIME. Also he levelled straight to 7 from the gary fight lol.

DICKS chose a light blue, at least partially Ice type, Tauros that knew Fire Punch, and there was no love for the pink slowpoke.

84
I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get it to display in colour, which is why I'm imprisoned in black and white and the magical land of working out Pokemon types by smacking them with abilities :P

Additionally once I finish my current run, I am all kinds of going to do a Nuzlocke run because I'm a sucker for pain C:

85
Oh my God this is the absolute greatest thing.

HERE IS MY CURRENT TEAM. (I just beat Brock, and for reference, I set everything to completely random and ticked every box.)

Starter

I also bagged somewhere in the region of 15 other pokemon so far, but I picked my favourite type combos and rolled with that, although movesets played a factor in the decision. Zubat learned Meditate from a level up, and the TM from Brock contained Sludge. No picks of the boxed Pokemon because the way VBA overwrites screenshots is super dounle retarded and half of my screenshots for them went away. The only one I remember was a Fire type Machoke that had Waterfall and Metronome, that I subbed out for that Dratini.

All in all 10/10 mod of the year

86
I am so going to try this one maximum random mode at some point in the near future.

I got to 80 on GW2 so my schedule is now free >_>

-Pokemon actually being good. (i.e. No Gen 5)

You are so very, very wrong. Each gen has roughly equal amounts of silliness, both in terms of pokemon and characters, and the balance only gets better with each gen.

also why did i even post in this thread and what am i doing here. I must be really sleep deprived

« on: June 11, 2012, 11:07:00 am »
Im going off of the fact that for Rings and Score you just listed the level and no specific time zone, so surely you can time travel and get enough rings to outweigh the time limit?

As an addendum, if you want 4 time zone charts for times, then surely that should also apply to rings and scores, because not being consistent with a chart we're updating to better reflect the rules for the updated chart is a bit dumb. Or just have one chart and allow any time zone for times, too.

There are quite a few levels where ring bonus can trump time bonus
